DREAMS
REALLY DO COME TRUE
As a child, I had a
storybook with a picture of a golden horse with a beautiful white mane and
tail. I loved that horse, but it was only a fairytale, right? I will
never forget the day I saw a real "live" golden horse, with a
beautiful white mane and tail. I had to find out what kind of horse it
was. Of course, it was a Haflinger!!! The more I learned about
Haflingers, the more I wanted one. They sounded like the perfect horse for
me. So in 1997, I bought my first Haflinger and my "dream horse"
became a reality. Now it is hard to remember a time without
Haflingers. They have consumed our life like nothing else ever did.
My husband, Larry,
soon fell as hopelessly in love with Haflingers as I was. We had recently
retired and soon found ourselves becoming bored. So we decided to sell our
"other" horses and start breeding Haflingers. We went a little
overboard, buying and breeding and soon found ourselves with 25 Haflingers, all
wanting, needing, and deserving our time and attention. These horses are
such "people lovers", we decided to find good homes for some and
reduce our numbers, so we would have less work and more time for fun with our
Haflingers. We now have 7, which makes our daily lives much easier and our
remaining Haflingers are much happier with all the extra attention they receive.
We are active
members of the Western Haflinger Association (WHA) and the American Haflinger
Registry (AHR). We have met many wonderful Haflinger owners and volunteer
a significant amount of time and effort to these organizations.
Haflinger Inspection
& Classification (I & C) is one of my favorite subjects. I have
studied Haflinger confirmation and movement for the last 5 years, in both the
United States and the Haflinger homeland of Austria. During my studies, as
observer and scribe, I have filled out hundreds of score sheets and been
privileged to receive personal instruction from several judges, who are listed
on the International Haflinger Judge's list. My main goal was to improve
our own breeding program, and that goal is ongoing. We have presented 6 of
our Haflingers for I & C, plus 3 yearlings colts have had their Informal
Evaluations. Four of our Haflingers have achieved a "Silver"
rating, and a couple missed the mark by only one or two points.
We love raising
Haflinger babies, but as responsible breeders, we don't want to produce unwanted
foals. In the menu of this web site, "click" on
"MARES" to read more about our new program:
"CREATE THE
HAFLINGER OF YOUR DREAMS".
Our goal is to produce
exceptional, high quality Haflingers for discriminating buyers, who are capable
of recognizing true quality. We have seen the results of "selective
breeding". We will only breed our Inspected/Classified mares to Inspected/Classified
Haflinger stallions, who have attained a "Silver" rating or better.
We believe this is our best
insurance to consistently produce quality Haflingers with better than average
confirmation, excellent temperaments, and intelligent minds. These traits
assure a sound active athlete, eager to accept training in almost any equine
discipline.
If you are looking
for a "better than average Haflinger", give us a call. If you
are a serious breeder, we encourage you to offer a similar program to your
customers.
