IMPORTED
AUSTRIAN STALLION
Does your mare have qualities
that blend well with Styleschutz to produce that very special
Haflinger foal we all dream of?
Styleschutz is developing into a "stunning
stallion" and started his breeding career to a few select mares in
2005. As you can see by his pictures (above), he is the
epitome of refinement and demonstrates exquisite, graceful
movement, and is very light on his feet.
Photos at the top of this page were taken at the Western Haflinger
Annual Event September 2004. Styleschutz was an exceptional crowd pleaser,
when he showed his fabulous movement in the Stallion
Parade. He also showed how brave he is, when Dayl Phillip
led him through the trail course. He wasn't afraid of any of the
scary objects.
Styleschutz spent 3
months with Dayl Phillip learning to long line and was backed for
the first few times by her daughter, Angela. Dayl is well
known on the West Coast as an open horse show judge and has owned
Haflingers for 17 years. She has raised and trained 2 other
stallions.
Here is what Dayl said
about Styleschutz. "This horse is fun to work
with." "He enjoys learning new things to think
about and likes to work." "With Styleschutz new
and exciting pedigree, I think Styleschutz will be a great
addition to Haflinger breeder's options." In 2005, Dayl
choose to breed her mares to Styleschutz.
A wise breeder
once said, "When breeding, first consider the family, then look at
the horse."
Styleschutz first and longest
trip was made in the warm comfort of his mother's womb. His
dam, Masha, (daughter of Madeira - a GOLD rated, "elite"
mare) was bred in the Tyrolean region of Austria to Standschutz, and Styleschutz was
born in Oregon. So, Styleschutz is truly a young, imported
Austrian stallion. So far, I believe Styleschutz is one of only two male offspring
by Standschutz in North America.
Styleschutz's sire,
Standschutz, is still in Austria. In his first foal crop to
reach the age of 3 years old, Standschutz had two sons
"approved" for breeding, by their very strict Inspection
and Classification process. Many Standschutz daughters
have already been Classified 1A, the highest rating for weanlings.
PREPARING FOR
LIFE
On May 17, 2003,
Styleschutz was entered in his first two halter classes for
yearlings at the Oregon Gold Horse Show. Styleschutz won
both classes and brought home his first "Blue" ribbons.
During the summer of
2003,
Styleschutz was introduced to a harness. He thinks its fun
to be ground driven outside and through obstacle in our arena,
such as cones, over poles and a simulated bridge. These exercises
were really good preparation for Styleschutz navigating the trail
course (in-hand) and a basic harnessing and ground driving
demonstration at the Western Haflinger Annual Event.
Styleschutz really had fun at this busy event. He is very
friendly, brave, and curious about everything, but afraid of
nothing.
In 2004, Styleschutz
continued his driving training and was backed a few times.
Again, he showed no fear of new equipment such as saddle pad,
saddle and bridle. He is the bravest horse I have ever
known, whether in familiar surroundings or out and about in field
and forest, or in a busy environment such a a show.
